MacLean's SI-2172 is designed specifically for connecting a ground wire to the figure 8 messenger strand, where a self-supporting cable is used. The teeth of the connector penetrate the insulation of the messenger to form a positive ground. It is constructed of tin-plated bronze and UL/CUL listed.
